In every system of morality, which I have hitherto met with, I have always remark’d, that the author proceeds for some time in the ordinary ways of reasoning, and establishes the being of a God, or makes observations concerning human affairs; when all of a sudden I am surpriz’d to find, that instead of the usual copulations of propositions, is, and is not, I meet with no proposition that is not connected with an ought, or an ought not. This change is imperceptible; but is however, of the last consequence. For as this ought, or ought not, expresses some new relation or affirmation, ‘tis necessary that it shou’d be observ’d and explain’d; and at the same time that a reason should be given; for what seems altogether inconceivable, how this new relation can be a deduction from others, which are entirely different from it». Anyone with some experience in reading theses in moral theology will probably have had a reaction similar to that described by David Hume (1711-1776) in this famous paragraph.  In fact, words such as “ought”, “should” and “must” are often introduced without further explanation.   Un mundo de contrastes Vivimos en sociedades donde al parecer asustan mucho las diferencias, donde cuesta incluir lo diferente, lo que no encaja con esquemas preconcebidos. Sin embargo, al parecer, no duelen ni preocupan demasiado los contrastes (video). Las diferencias son necesarias, y con ellas y desde ellas podemos entretejer la vida, con sus variopintos colores, sabores y, sobre todo, sabidurías, las cuales nos darán trabajo ciertamente, muchas veces habrá que respetarlas, otras integrarlas y otras superarlas, pero que al final nos dejarán siempre con la satisfacción de haber recibido la vida en su mayor dignidad, esto es, en su riquísima variedad de expresiones humanas y bio-sistémicas. Los contrastes no son solo diferencias “notables”, definirlos así no es más que un eufemismo hiriente y fatuo. Más bien indican realidades que se oponen radicalmente. Se repelen una a otra, porque una desenmascara a la otra, porque una resulta insultante y denigrante para la otra. Por lo tanto, hablamos de realidades que expresan: contradicción, contraposición, antagonismo, enfrentamiento, contrariedad. Nuestros jóvenes, y con ellos todos/as nosotros/as, vimos en un mundo signado por el gran contraste de estar «lleno de progresos», pero en el cual estamos expuestos «al sufrimiento y a la manipulación»,…
